Feasibility analyses for components made of fiber reinforced plastics 

TEUFELBERGER possesses comprehensive expertise in developing and producing fiber reinforced plastics. When preparing detailed feasibility analyses, we combine it with our experience in cost and production planning of series projects and with our extensive network of contacts in the Composites segment.As a result, our customers are able at a very early stage to assess the technical feasibility and the lightweight potential and lightweight costs of components made of fiber reinforced plastics.  

Lightweighting feasibility studies from TEUFELBERGER generally include the following elements:

  • In a preliminary personal meeting with the customer, the most important basic conditions of the project are ascertained. In this process, technical and economic aspects are looked at in detail. At this stage, also the most important customer benefits obtained by using the composite solution as well as the "must-have" and "show-stopper" arguments are formulated.
  • By analyzing this preliminary meeting, first tendencies as regards materials and manufacturing methods used can be derived. Also, potential project risks will become visible. Of course, this first stage comes at no charge to our customers.
  • Based on customer data, the component is drafted in the CAD software and predimensioned using finite element analysis. During designing, we focus not only on design space requirements but also on creating a manufacturing-compatible design ("form follows function"). Based on component geometry, material structure, and wall thicknesses, the lightweight potential and the material costs can already be estimated.
  • In a more detailed analysis, the suitable manufacturing concept is developed based on the projected piece numbers, which also makes it possible to assess the likely production and investment costs.

Thanks to this early involvement of TEUFELBERGER in our customers' composite projects, we are usually able to consider manufacturing-relevant aspects in the product design. This allows us to reduce the component costs of our customers. This and its hybrid composite technologies (such as the T-Igel® composite-to-metal connection) enable TEUFELBERGER to implement cost-optimized lightweight engineering projects.
