Teufelberger is part of the Strapping Alliance
Strapping Alliance – what is it and why is it important?
:quality(80))
The Strapping Band Alliance was founded to provide a practical response to the new requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) – especially in the area of reusable packaging (article 29). Strapping cannot be reused for safety reasons. This has also been confirmed by two independent studies (see links on the left). The alliance therefore advocates an alternative solution: recycling instead of reuse:
How is this related to the PPWR?
The new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) pursues two main goals:
1. Promote reuse
2. Increase recycling rates & reduce waste
Used strapping bands are not worthless. As monomaterials, primarily made of PP or PET, they are ideal for reprocessing. Since strapping cannot be reused for the same purpose, we propose a different path together with the alliance: Recycling and use as a new raw material for the production of strapping.
The challenge: logistics & decentralization
The problem: Strapping do not accumulate centrally, but where the packaged material is needed – i.e., decentrally at our customers or their customers. Therefore, joint solutions are needed to capture these material flows.
Our answer: better.collect
With better.collect, we provide exactly this solution:
• Collection systems for used strapping bands
• Partnerships with customers, collectors, and recyclers
• Raising awareness that strapping bands are a valuable raw material
Other initiatives such as Re-Strap (independent system) or Loop That by Mosca show: the industry is moving – and we are leading the way.
What makes Teufelberger special?
We go one step further: we already use up to 10% recycled strapping based material in our production.
✅ Closed loop
✅ Fewer primary raw materials
✅ More sustainability for our customers
Our goal
With our participation in the alliance and initiatives like better.collect, we actively contribute to reducing packaging waste. With the help of the alliance, changes to the PPWR targets are being pursued – positioning us as pioneers in sustainable packaging solutions.
