Braided Composite Parts
TEUFELBERGER is the technology leader in braiding. Composite Braiding represents an advancement of this traditional fabrication method. With it we offer our customers the combined benefits of expert composite fabrication and a strong partnership in the pursuit of new applications.
Composite Braiding allows for an automated fabrication of complex part geometries. High throughput, a stable process and little material waste result in attractive total costs of ownership. Compatibility with other textile fabrication methods (e.g. stitching, sewing), the simple implementation of a hybrid fiber design (e.g. glass / carbon), as well as the capability to integrate various load transmission elements opens up a wide variety of applications.
The mandrel defines the inner contour of the final part and is guided automatically through the centre of the braiding machine. The generated flexible tube is contracted on the surface of the mandrel to form a closed braid. Fixed bobbins mounted on the exterior of the braiding ring introduce additional reinforcing fibers in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the part. This triaxial braid increases the bending stiffness of the composite considerably. In the subsequent process step the injection of the matrix material (Resin Infusion or Resin Transfer Moulding RTM) followed by a curing step takes place. The mandrel either remains in the part as a structural element or will be removed again after curing.
