Overbraiding
By utilizing radial braiding machinery TEUFELBERGER is able to apply bi- and triaxial fiber layouts in a fully automated way over virtually any mandrel shape. The fiber placement will result in a consistently near-net shaped coverage of the mandrel according to the specific load cases of your composite part. Among other parameter we are able to vary fiber angle, fiber density, number of fiber layers and can even create hybrid fiber structures (like carbon and glass). Since the process is fully automated the cost and time saving potential over Prepreg and Autoclave is tremendous (up to 35% were proofed) when infiltrating the preform with a resin utilizing the RTM or RI process subsequently. Depending on the application and shape of the part we can work with lost cores (e.g. Aquacore™), permanent cores (e.g. foam) or decomposable cores.
When compared to filament winding, overbraiding can integrate longitudinal fibers easily and create bending strengths that are out-of-reach for traditional automated processes.
Not least, overbraiding allows for our form-fit metal-composite interconnection that can be offered to our customers as well.
Advantages of Overbraiding:
- Integration of longitudinal fibers, load transmission elements, flanges etc.
- Low Total Cost of Ownership through automation with high throughput and minimum waste
- High process flexibility through separation of preforming and RI/RTM as well as combination with stitching, sewing etc.
- High material flexibility – various fibers can be processed (carbon, glass, Aramid, Basalt, Dyneema™ etc.)
- High reproducibility through near-net-shape fabrication with continuous, load-specific biaxial and triaxial fibre placement capability
