Metal-Composite Interconnection
Composite Braiding Technology integrates all load-transmitting elements via automated fiber placement prior to closure of the meshwork over the mandrel body. This process gave rise to the development of the innovative metal-fiber composite connection technology „T-IGEL®“.
The manufacturing process for creating the pins on virtually any formed metal surface is fully-automated. It makes the form-fit interconnection between standard metal systems (e.g. threads) and the fiber composite part possible. After having the pin structure fully covered with braided fibers, the composite part is ready to be infiltrated with a resin (e.g. RTM, RI).
Advantages of the T-IGEL® interconnection technology:
- Tensile and torsion strengths considerably higher than with adhesive joints.
- Fully automated process with high throughput for both pin formation and composite braiding.
- Form-Fit allows for simple control and qualification of the connection.
- Plastic deformation instead of sudden failure
